When her reporter brother is killed while working on a major story, his sister Susan Williams (Anton), also a journalist, takes up the investigation and soon finds herself enmeshed in an international conspiracy to steal and sell nuclear Weapons. Anthony Korf (Paulsen) is the primary villain she faces, although he has no shortage of thugs to send after her. In a broad spoof of the serial film melodrama The Perils of Pauline (1914), Susan would each week escape a different death trap while trying to get conclusive evidence; these threats often involved animals such as a cobra, a lion, and a herd of elephants. A new such cliffhanger concluded each episode. Running as part of the Television anthology series Cliffhangers (1979) and starting in media res with "Chapter II", Stop Susan Williams was cancelled before reaching its conclusion. Its episodes were edited together with an added ending as the 93-minute film The Girl Who Saved the World (1979) directed by Reza Badiyi, which was syndicated to television. [GSt/DRL]
