Lauria, Frank

(1935-2022) US author who began to publish work of genre interest with Doctor Orient (1970), opening the Dr Owen Orient sequence of occult thrillers in urban-fantasy vein, in which the eponymous investigator – gifted with Psi Powers – tangles with such expected menaces as Vampires, voodoo, Werewolves and Zombies, these threats often taking dangerously alluring female form (see Sex). [For Occult Detectives and Urban Fantasy see The Encyclopedia of Fantasy under links below.]

Of direct sf interest are the film Ties Dark City (1998), novelizing Dark City (1998) directed by Alex Proyas, and Pitch Black (2000), a novelization of Pitch Black directed by David Twohy. The latter, being based on an early draft of the film script, features aspects of character that were reworked during film production. [DRL]
