Knapp, James

(1970-    ) US author whose Revivors sequence comprises State of Decay (2010), which won the Compton Crook/Stephen Tall Memorial Award, The Silent Army (2010) and Element Zero (2011). The series is set in a Near Future Dystopian America whose citizens – in order to avoid military service in the unending Wars their country continues to wage, and also to gain sufficient credit to feed their families in a world where Climate Change has finally begun to bite – are entitled to mortgage their corpses for revival as cannon fodder Zombies. The noirish protagonist, once a police officer, is now a government agent in the fight against a potential tyrant. The action is clearcut, but perhaps too self-contained to generate recognitions of things to come. [JC]
