Australian Fanzine (1966-1969) edited by John Bangsund; 20 issues dated June 1966 to June 1969, plus eight more under the new title Scythrop, December 1969 to Summer 1973.
Australian SF Review was one of the most literate and eclectic of the serious sf fanzines and, despite its relative isolation, was able to attract articles from such writers as Brian W Aldiss, James Blish, John Brunner, Harry Harrison, Michael Moorcock and Keith Roberts. It also served as a focal point for renewed interest in sf and Fandom in Australia, and brought attention to Australian sf critics such as John Baxter, John Foyster, Bruce Gillespie, Lee Harding and George Turner. Australian SF Review was twice nominated for a Hugo, and won a Ditmar Award as best fanzine or amateur publication in 1969.
In 1986 it was revived under a new editorial collective as Australian Science Fiction Review: Second Series (which see). [PR/DRL]
