White, Tim

(1952-    ) Prolific UK artist and illustrator of fantasy/sf subjects, with a finely detailed, fresh-coloured painting style. His outstanding ability to depict convincing alien environments has marked him out as one of the most successful and talented of modern UK illustrators in the genre. His work shows some influence from the Surrealists (particularly René Magritte) and also from Maxfield Parrish.

TW worked for an advertising agency before turning freelance as a fantasy illustrator. An impressive collection of his work is The Science Fiction and Fantasy World of Tim White (graph 1981). [RT]
