Working name of UK illustrator, Comics artist and writer Ronald Charles Tickner (1940-    ), who began to draw sf, fantasy, sport, war and romance comics in the mid-1970s. His work has appeared in most UK children's comics, the Nigerian Superhero title Powerman (1976-1978) and the US comic book Hellblazer (1989-1990); more recently he has concentrated on Illustration. He has written Figure Drawing Without a Model (1992) and, with John Grant, The Encyclopedia of Fantasy and Science Fiction Art Techniques (1996); his articles on illustration have appeared in various magazines. He co-ordinated and largely wrote the comics entries in the second edition of the SFE, and has done the same for this encyclopedia, of which he is a Contributing Editor. [RT/JG]
