(1945-    ) US writer, primarily of YA fantasy and sf. As with much YA fiction, the distinction between sf and fantasy in PFS's work is haphazard: her first books, the Winter sequence – Winter of Magic's Return (1985) and Tomorrow's Magic (1987) – take place in a post-Holocaust, but involve Arthur; while Weirdos of the Universe, Unite! (1992) offers figures from Mythology battling an alien invasion. Other works that partake of fantasy include the Ghost Story When the Night Wind Howls (1987), The Reluctant God (1988), Vision Quest (1989), Wizard of Wind and Rock (1990) and Storm at the End of Time (1995).
