(1946-2014) writer who has specialized mostly in Horror novels – like Emergence (1981 US), Blood Offerings (1985 US) and The Dreaming (1989), which is a Vampire tale – or on work for children like The Enchanted Tapestry (1987 chap), a Twice-Told tale from the Chinese, and Young Merlin (1990 chap), which tells of Merlin's early years. Short & Shivery (coll 1987) and Cut from the Same Cloth (coll 1993), the latter with Brian Pinkney, are sets of twice-told Folktales. He has published many other fantasies for younger reader. [JC]
