US large-format slick Magazine, bimonthly, October 1994-current, published by Sovereign Media, Herndon, VA; ed Shawna McCarthy (1954-    ).

A fantasy companion to Science Fiction Age, ROF has placed heavy emphasis on Fantasy Art, with full-colour interior illustrations by top artists including Bob Eggleton (1960-    ), Brian Froud, James Gurney and Don Maitz. The fiction emphasizes High Fantasy, though a blend of historical and mythographic Low Fantasies have also developed, especially drawing upon Folklore roots. Authors include Louise Cooper, Neil Gaiman, Tanith Lee, Connie Willis and Roger Zelazny, along with features by Terri Windling on folk roots and Gahan Wilson on books. [MA]
