(1640-1715) Chinese writer whose Liao-chai-chih-i (coll 1766; some later exps; trans H Giles as Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio 1916 UK) assembles over 400 short stories, many Supernatural Fiction; Beast Fables and tales of Shapeshifter fairies are also frequent. [JC]
