Power, Susan Mary

(1961-    ) US writer, of Sioux ancestry. Her first novel, The Grass Dancer (1994), is a family saga written in short vignettes that move around the century of White domination, demonstrating the power for Good and Evil of traditional ritual and Magic. What makes this something more like a Genre Fantasy than Magic Realism is that the Magic is exploited for plot purposes rather than left as backdrop. [RK]
