Still occasionally cited – like Oz – as an exemplary Imaginary Land or Land of Fable, this is the setting for much of James Branch Cabell's Biography of the Life of Manuel. Despite extensive links to mythical geography, it is supposedly a province of medieval France, longitude 4 degrees east, whose principal castles are Bellegarde and Storisende. Cabell and his frequent illustrator Frank C Papé both drew Maps of Poictesme. [DRL]
