Nye, Jody Lynn

(1957-    ) US writer whose first publications were episodes in the Crossroads Adventure series of ties; they include Encyclopedia of Xanth * (1987) and Ghost of a Chance * (1988), both tied to the Xanth sequence by Piers Anthony, and Dragonharper * (1987) and Dragonfire * (1988), both tied to the Pern sequence by Anne McCaffrey. With Anthony, JLN wrote Piers Anthony's Visual Guide to Xanth (1989); with McCaffrey her collaborations have been more extensive, including The Dragonlover's Guide to Pern * (1989), The Death of Sleep * (1990), which is set in McCaffrey's Sassinak world, and Crisis on Doona * (1992), also sf, set in the Doona sequence. Solo, JLN has published the Mythology sequence – Mythology 101 (1990), Mythology Abroad (1991) and Higher Mythology (1992) – involving a Wainscot society of Little People (> Celtic Fantasy) who live beneath a university library and have adventures with chosen humans. Taylor's Ark (1993) is a medical sf thriller, and Medicine Show (1994) roughly sequels it. [JC]
