Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1997)

Central character of a series of stories in Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Books and one of the key images of Feral Children. Mowgli is nowadays most familiar by courtesy of the animated Disney musical The Jungle Book (1967), which eliminates the original stories' darkly ironic commentary on the dubious benefits of "civilization".
