(1960-    ) Canadian writer whose first work, The Sharpest Edge (1986 US), with S M Stirling (1954-    ), the second volume in Sterling's Snowbrother sequence of tales set in a post-Holocaust Earth, is essentially Sword and Sorcery. The continuation of this Fifth Millennium series – The Cage (1989 US) with Sterling, Shadow's Daughter (1991 US) and Shadow's Sun (1991 US) – follows the adventures of two female adventurers, who become lovers and get involved in complex, treacherous disputes.
