Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1997)
McBride, Angus

(1931-    ) Self-taught London-born Scottish artist and illustrator of historical and fantasy subjects, with a clean, crisp, richly coloured painting style. His art, done in gouache, has a remarkably attractive clarity and vitality. AM worked in advertising studios in London and South Africa before turning to illustration in 1961, specializing in historical reconstruction. He has done many paintings based on the works of J R R Tolkien for the role-playing Games of Iron Crown Enterprises.
