Mattingly, David B

(1956-    ) US sf and fantasy illustrator, with a richly embellished and brightly coloured painting style; he is particularly adept at representing surface textures and intricate incidental detail. DM's first job was as a matte artist for Disney. He produced work for The Black Hole (1979), Tron (1982) and Dick Tracy (1990), among others. His work now mostly appears on book covers. [RT]
