Lloyd, A R

(1927-    ) UK journalist and writer of popular history whose first novel, not fantasy, was The Eighteenth Concubine (1972; as Alan Lloyd). He used his knowledge of the natural world to good effect in the Kine Saga Animal-Fantasy trilogy for younger readers: Kine (1982; vt Marshworld), Witchwood (1989) and Dragonpond (1990). These recount the adventures of the eponymous weasel. [DP]

other works: The Last Otter (1984; vt The Boy and the Otter), The Farm Dog (1986) and Wingfoot (1993), all nonfantastic novels about animals.
