(1949-    ) UK writer, editor and critic, best-known for sf criticism, though much of her work since the early 1980s has been in fantasy. She is a Contributing Editor to this encyclopedia. Her first fiction of genre interest was "A Lonely Impulse" in Temps: Volume One * (anth 1991) "devised by" Neil Gaiman and Alex Stewart. Works edited include: Tales from the Forbidden Planet (anth 1987) and More Tales from the Forbidden Planet (anth 1990); the Weerde sequence of Shared-World anthologies comprising The Weerde: Book 1 * (anth 1992) and The Weerde: II * (anth 1993), both with Mary Gentle, and focusing on a clutch of Shapeshifters who live Wainscot lives on Earth while infiltrating our legends and history; and Villains! * (anth 1992), also with Gentle.
