Johnston, Gunnar

(?   -    ) UK writer of whom nothing is known but that he published some thrillers, three of which were fantasy. The Silber sequence – The Claws of the Scorpion (1935) and The Two Kings (1936) – features Silber, an occult figure who inspires supernatural events in otherwise routine adventure tales. Soria Moria Castle: The Manuscript of Donald Gayforth Forbest (1938) more interestingly depicts a sinister East-European castle, an Edifice paired with a Mirror version of itself and lying athwart Underground passages of great intricacy. Perilous Discovery (1938) is sf. [JC]
