Pseudonym of UK writer Charles James Hankinson (1866-1959). His Lost-Race novel Raymi, or The Children of the Sun (1889) is of mild interest. In An Egyptian Coquette (1898; rev vt The Spell of Isis 1923) a young woman falls into suspended animation after committing a crime; the tale takes us to ancient Egypt. The Hidden Submarine, or The Plot that Failed (1917) verges on sf in its description of an unsuccessful German invasion plot. [JC]
