Herbie Movies

The intelligent Volkswagen who starred in four Disney movies and a brief tv series (Herbie, the Love Bug [1982]), earned himself a huge audience. Essentially a Technofantasy character, Herbie was the first Car to have its tyre-marks recorded outside Grauman's Chinese Theater, and the first to be issued with a US passport. There were minor overlaps between this series and the Shaggy Dog and Flubber series (see Disney). The movies were The Love Bug (1969) – novelized as The Love Bug * (1969) by Mel Cebulash – Herbie Rides Again (1974) – novelized as Herbie Rides Again * (1974) by Mel Cebulash – Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977) novelized as Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo * (1977) by Vic Crume – and Herbie Goes Bananas (1980) – novelized as Herbie Goes Bananas * (1980) by Joe Claro.
