Garnett, Edward

(1868-1936) UK editor and writer, son of Richard Garnett, married to Constance Garnett; their son was David Garnett. As a publisher's reader he was enormously influential from the 1890s on, stimulating the early careers of writers like Joseph Conrad, E M Forster, W H Hudson and D H Lawrence. He was a minor playwright but a significant critic. His only fiction of genre interest is Papa's War (coll dated 1918 but probably 1919), a set of 22 sf and fantasy fables, usually containing some Satire addressed towards correcting the failures of civilization that led to World War I.
