Friswell, Hain

(1825-1878) UK author of Ghost Stories and Phantom Fancies (coll 1858), a collection of Supernatural Fictions which includes a Christmas tale, "All Alone on Christmas Day", and a number of Ghost Stories. A further tale, "The King of the Gnomes", is the first translation into English of "Viy" (1835), by Nikolai Gogol. [JC]
