(1955-    ) US writer, mostly associated with sf, though he began his career with the Vidar sequence – The Hammer and the Horn (1985), The Seekers and the Sword (1985) and The Fortress and the Fire (1988) – which mixes Nordic Fantasy and Contemporary Fantasy. Vidar, a man in this world, is also an Avatar of Vidar, the son of Odin; and must pass back and forth between world and Otherworld. The Glove of Maiden's Hair (1987), set in contemporary New York, features Elves there. [JC]
