Frayling, Christopher

(1946-    ) UK writer and academic, Head of the School of Humanities at the Royal College of Art in London since 1979. Vampyres (anth 1979; exp vt Vampyres: Lord Byron to Count Dracula 1991) is a useful and wide-ranging presentation of Vampire matters. Strange Landscape: A Journey Through the Middle Ages (1995) provides insights into fantasy Landscape, particularly with reference to Sword and Sorcery tales, in which medieval backdrops tend to be utilized, sometimes mercilessly. Hints about the broader landscapes of Fantasyland in general – particularly when Genre Fantasies are located there – can also be gleaned. [JC]
