Fraser, Eric George

(1902-1983) UK illustrator, significantly active from the 1920s; his dense black-ink or scraperboard drawings, almost always in sharp contrast to a white overlay, became familiar in advertisements for British Rail and Shell. Books illustrated include The Book of the Thousand Nights and One Night (1958, 2 vols only), The Art of Love (1971) by Ovid, Tales of the British People (1961) by Barbara Léonie Picard (1917-2011), The Hobbit (1977) and The Lord of the Rings (1977) by J R R Tolkien, and The Ring (1976) by Richard Wagner.
