Fisher, Paul R

(1960-    ) US writer whose Ash Staff sequence – The Ash Staff (1979), The Hawks of Fellheath (1980) and The Princess and the Thorn (1980) – provides its YA audience with an initially unremarkable tale, whose young protagonists come to maturity (see Rite of Passage) in a Fantasyland through testing conflicts with a Dark Lord. The later volumes, by concentrating on character development, are surprisingly subtle within their limiting frame. Mont Cant Gold (1981) is a singleton. [JC]
