Fire and Ice

US Animated Movie (1982). 20th Century-Fox/Producers Sales Organization. Pr Ralph Bakshi, Frank Frazetta. Dir Bakshi. Screenplay Gerry Conway, Roy Thomas. Voice actors Leo Gordon (King Jarol), Sean Hannon (Nekron), Cynthia Leake (Teegra), Randy Norton (Larn), William Ostrander (Taro), Steve Sandor (Darkwolf). 81 mins. Colour.

A fairly standard Sword-and-Sorcery tale in which wicked Wizard Nekron's beautiful (i.e., good) daughter Teegra is kidnapped by dusky (i.e., bad) subhumans and all looks lost until the blond (i.e., good) Hero Darkwolf saves the day. The movie's Colour-Coding has been much objected to, though really that comes with the S&S territory. In general this is a much less interesting and imaginative excursion than Bakshi's Wizards (1977) or even his murky Lord of the Rings (1978). [JG]
