(1944-    ) UK writer, most of whose fantasy involves contemporary women in Timeslips to earlier periods. Lady of Hay (1986) accomplishes this through Mesmerism. In Kingdom of Shadows (1988), rather more interestingly, two women (one the mistress of Robert the Bruce) find themselves interchanging lives and passions. Some of the 44 stories in Encounters (coll 1990) are fantasy. Child of the Phoenix (1992), set in 13th-century Wales, features a girl whose Talents bring her into danger. Midnight Is a Lonely Place (1994) is a Ghost Story. [JC]
