Di Fate, Vincent

(1945-    ) Widely respected US painter and illustrator of sf subjects; he has a well controlled, loose, richly coloured painting style. He began his professional career as a tv animator. His first sf illustration was for Analog in 1969, since when his work has appeared in magazines and on book covers. He was one of the NASA artists for the Apollo/Soyuz programme, and received a Hugo Award in 1979. He also writes on sf art in his long-running column, Sketches, in Algol and SF Chronicle. [RT]
