Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1997)
Cuddon, J A

(1928-1996) UK critic, writer and anthologist. A Dictionary of Literary Terms (1977; rev 1979; rev vt A Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory 1991) is notable among books of this sort in managing to deal with the literature of the fantastic – there are entries on Horror and Science Fiction, though none on fantasy as such – without recourse to the pejorative. The Penguin Book of Ghost Stories (anth 1984) and The Penguin Book of Horror Stories (anth 1984) are useful. [JC]
