(1933-    ) US writer who began publishing work of genre interest with "Another Rib" for F&SF in 1963 with Marion Zimmer Bradley, writing together as John Jay Wells. She remains better-known for her sf than her fantasy, but the Krantin sequence – The Web of Wizardry (1978) and The Death God's Citadel (1980) – is of interest for its overall Planetary Romance. The sequence does not otherwise stand out; and JC is clearly more comfortable – as in Star Sister (1990) – with novels which, though similar in feel, ride upon sf rationales. [JC]
