Coleridge, Sara

(1802-1852) UK poet, translator and writer for children, the only daughter of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, whose works she subsequently edited. She produced the remarkable Phantasmion (1837), modelled on Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queen (1590-96), telling of the adventures of the eponymous Prince in the land of Faerie. It was the first Fairytale novel written in English. [MA]
