(1912-1972) UK editor and literary agent, predominantly in the field of sf. As editor of the magazine Science Fantasy, EJC encouraged the Otherworld fantasies of John Brunner and Kenneth Bulmer, and was instrumental in Michael Moorcock writing the Elric stories and Thomas Burnett Swann producing his mythological fantasies when there was no market for them in the USA. Among many anthologies EJC edited Jinn and Jitters (anth 1946) and Weird Shadows from Beyond (anth 1965). [MA]
