Brock, C E

(1870-1938) Very prolific and popular UK book illustrator with a strong, realistic pen-and-ink line style. He was a highly competent draughtsman, and his work's clarity and sureness of touch have ensured that it has not become dated.

CEB was the elder brother of H M Brock, with whom he worked very closely. He studied under the sculptor Henry Wiles, and by the age of 21 was an established book and magazine illustrator. He and his brother amassed, in the studio they shared, a collection of antique furniture and costume for use as props in the authentic period Illustrations that constituted a large proportion of their output.
