Blamires, Harry

(1916-    ) UK author of a reverent but heavily ironic Divine Comedy – in the tradition of C S Lewis's The Screwtape Letters (1942) – begun with The Devil's Hunting Grounds (1954), an account of Purgatory, and continued in Cold War in Hell (1955) and Blessing Unbounded (1955). Modern politics (including Church politics) and social trends are sharply satirized, but the third volume exercises cautious discretion in describing the road to Heaven without offering any elaborate account of that destination.
