(1933-2016) Scottish-born US artist and illustrator of fantasy and sf subjects who uses a wide range of very bright colours and whose compositions and subject matter have been heavily influenced by Frank Frazetta; his work shows also the influence of Comics artists like Alex Raymond and Burne Hogarth. Born in Glasgow, KB was apprenticed as a sign painter and then, after military service, worked in a commercial art studio in London. His first sf work was a cover for Nebula magazine in 1958. In 1968 he emigrated to the USA, where he continues to publish book and magazine covers and advertising material. [RT]
