Barker, Cicely Mary

(1895-1973) UK children's book illustrator best-known for her Flower Fairies books, featuring appealingly drawn children in picturesque botanical costumes; these have hardly been out of print since first published in seven volumes 1923-1935.

CMB briefly studied part-time at Croydon School of Art, but was largely self-taught. She came to be recognized as one of the most accomplished children's illustrators of her period. [RT]
