Bacon, Martha

Working name of US writer Martha Sherman Bacon Oliver-Smith (1917-1981), whose The Third Road (1971) is a Timeslip fantasy in which three contemporary children are trapped in 17th-century Spain, having travelled there on a Unicorn's back. Moth Manor: A Gothic Tale (1978) grippingly describes the efforts of a child to save a Doll-house and its animate inhabitants from her elders. [JC]
