Antrim, Donald

(1958-    ) US writer, author of Elect Mr Robinson for a Better World (1993), a satiric Fabulation set in a US suburb where neighbours battle with semiautomatic weaponry in the local park and surround their houses with trenches and fortifications; additionally, the narrator's wife possesses a Talent that enables her to "access memory at the cellular level and ride the DNA chain like a wave back into prehistory", thus achieving rapport with extinct sealife. The tension between the narrator's affectless voice and the grim goings-on tightens the narrative thread to a darkly hilarious pitch. [GF]
