Paranormal Romance

Tagged: Theme.

A fantasy subgenre most conveniently defined as a subset of Urban Fantasy (in its modern sense 2.) in which protagonists are generally female and the romantic element is as strong as or stronger than the Horror or action-adventure aspects of the narrative. Typically in such romances, girl meets Vampire or girl meets Werewolf (or occasionally some other variety of Shapeshifter) amid other more or less melodramatic plot complications. As a publishing category, paranormal romance has become hugely popular in the twenty-first century. [DRL]
