(1936-2015) US writer whose The Book of the Night (1984) conveys, through an exorbitant plot, some sense of the violence attending the Rite of Passage through Menarche of a young girl, who is brought to the Celtic Island of Iona disguised as a boy (see Gender Disguise) and whose passage (see Recognition), via self-Metamorphosis, into a white cow awakens the Elder Gods by shaking the thin partitions between worlds in this Land-of-Fable venue.
