Kelly, Ken
Tagged: Artist.
(1946-2022) US painter and illustrator of epic fantasy. He studied under Frank Frazetta, from whom he inherited his tableau-style compositions and general ethos, though the influence of Boris Vallejo is also strongly in evidence. He works in oils in a generally subdued and subtle colour range. His figures are massively muscled and exaggeratedly heroic. Among his earliest published works were several covers for Warren Publishing's Creepy and Eerie. His paintings now appear mostly on book covers; a series for books by Robert E Howard received particular accolade. [RT]
