Tagged: Author.
(?1924-?1993) UK writer of historical novels, several of which are fantasy. Votan (1966) and Not For All the Gold in Ireland (1968) are humorous retellings of Norse and Celtic Mythology respectively, and are notable for their acceptance of the everyday importance of the supernatural to people of the time, and for their solid historical grounding. The Bridge of Sand (1976), more of a straight Romano-British historical novel narrated by the soldier-poet Juvenal, also includes magic occurrences as a normal part of life. [DVB]
