(1951-    ) UK writer and fantasy-Game promoter, sometimes in collaboration with Ian Livingstone. They wrote together the first title in the Fighting Fantasy sequence of multiple-choice gamebooks, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (1982). Jackson himself wrote #2: The Citadel of Chaos (1983), #4: Starship Traveller (1983), #10: House of Hell (1985; vt House of Hades 1985 US), #17: Appointment with F.E.A.R. (1985), #24: Creature of Havoc (1986), #42: Black Vein Prophecy (1990) with Paul Mason and #43: Keep of the Lich-Lord (1990). Confusingly, three books in this sequence are by the other (US) Steve Jackson. Jackson also wrote The Trolltooth Wars (1989), designed to begin the (abortive) Fighting Fantasy Novel series, and the Sorcery! sequence, comprising The Sorcery Spell Book (1983), The Shamutanti Hills (1984), Kharé – Cityport of Traps (1984) and The Seven Serpents (1984). Nonfiction titles include Fighting Fantasy: An Introductory Role-Playing Game (1984), Titan: The Fighting Fantasy World (1986) with Livingstone, and Fighting Fantasy Poster Book (graph 1989) with Livingstone.
