(1946-    ) US writer of children's books. His first story, Bunnicula – A Rabbit Tale of Mystery (1979), born of his love of Vampire Movies and the Marx Brothers, was co-written with his wife Deborah Howe (1946-1978), and features a vampire rabbit who sleeps all day and wakes at night to suck the juices out of helpless vegetables. An instant bestseller, it was made into a tv special. Further tales in the Bunnicula series include Howliday Inn (1982), The Celery Stalks at Midnight (1983), Nighty-Nightmare (1987) and Return to Howliday Inn (1992). He started a picture book series for younger children featuring the vampire rabbit, the dog narrator Harold, the cat Chester and other characters from Bunnicula, starting with The Fright Before Christmas (1988 chap), Scared Silly: A Halloween Treat (1989 chap), Hot Fudge (1990 chap), Creepy-Crawly Birthday (1991 chap), Rabbit-Cadabra! (1993 chap) and Bunnicula Escapes! – A Pop-Up Adventure (graph 1994).
