Harman, Andrew

Tagged: Author.

(1964-    ) UK writer of comic fantasies, the first five comprising the Firkin sequence – The Sorcerer's Appendix (1993), The Frogs of War (1994), The Tome Tunnel (1994) and Fahrenheit 666 (1995) – set in the opposing medieval Fantasyland kingdoms of Rhyngill and Chranachan. There is a good deal of Magic, usually botched, and some Twice-Told fairytales. 101 Damnations (1995) shifts venue to our world's present. Harman's humour tends to slapstick. He is one of several UK writers to generate work of this sort on the model – but without the wit – of Terry Pratchett. [JC]
