(1844-1925) UK illustrator and writer, much of whose work – like his copious illustrations for six Truth Christmas Annuals (1886-1891) – was sf Satire. He was active 1879-1914 as a political cartoonist for journals like the Westminster Gazette. "Who Killed Cock Robin?", and Other Stories for Children Young and Old (coll 1896) gathers various satirical Beast Fables, both written and illustrated by Gould. The Agnostic Island (1891) satirizes Utopias; Explorations in the Sit-tee Desert, Being a Comic Account of the Supposed Discovery of the Ruins of the London Stock Exchange some 2000 Years Hence (1899 chap) is another sf satire.
