Corran, Mary

Tagged: Author.

(1953-    ) UK writer whose first novel, Imperial Light (1994), somewhat overelaborately follows through a Fantasyland the mission of its female protagonist to combat a Pariah Elite of evil priests and to deliver some "lightstones" to places where they will help defeat the Dark and (with the help of the Gods) bring the Light. Her second, Fate (1995), more interestingly depicts a world in which luck is a measurable quantity; the female protagonist, a surviving Twin, has twice the normal allocation of it, and successfully defies a mechanical patriarchal hierarchy that, enslaved by superstition, has become a tyranny.
